In the ethereal world of dreams, there are champions who fight to protect the dreamer and there are demons who prey on them...
Arik is such a predator. Condemned by the gods to live eternity without emotions, Arik can only feel when he's in the dreams of others. For thousands of years, he's drifted through the human unconscious, searching for sensation. Now he's finally found a dreamer whose vivid mind can fill his emptiness.
Dr. Megeara Kafieri watched her father ruin himself and his reputation as he searched to prove Atlantis was real. Her deathbed promise to him to salvage his reputation has now brought her to Greece where she intends to prove once and for all that the fabled island is right where her father said it was. But frustration and bad luck dog her every step. Especially the day they find a stranger floating in the sea. His is a face she's seen many times.... in her dreams.
What she doesn't know is that Arik holds more than the ancient secrets that can help her find the mythical isle of Atlantis. He has made a pact with the god Hades: In exchange for two weeks as a mortal man, he must return to Olympus with a human soul. Megeara's soul.
With a secret society out to ruin her expedition, and mysterious accidents that keep threatening her life, Megeara refuses to quit. She knows she's getting closer to Atlantis and as she does, she stumbles onto the truth of what Arik really is.
For Arik his quest is no longer simple. No human can know of a Dream-Hunter's existence. His dream of being mortal has quickly turned into his own nightmare and the only way to save himself will be to sacrifice the very thing he wanted to be human for. The only question is, will he?
“Thank you, Geary. (Arik)
For what? (Geary)
For giving me a life that is the best dream I’ve ever had. (Arik)”
"The Dream Hunter" is a very interesting book to pick up and read if you are going along with the Dark-Hunterverse series. The books is like book 10 in the series if your not including the short stories which is a lot at that. There was this one time towards the end of the book, I had to reread a sentence because it didn't quite click, but then later on it sorta explains it in a way.
So you have the main characters Megeara or Geary for short and Arik or Arikos. Arikos is a Dream-Hunter a Skoti for that matter. During his time in the Dream world he found Geary, since being a Dream-Hunter he has no emotions what so ever. But being with Geary triggered something in him to want to go be with her in the human realm.
So when he comes to the human realm Geary only knows him from the Dream world, she just thinks this guy who washed up on her boat looks like him and has the same name. Geary on the other hand she is an explorer, right now she is looking for Atlantis. Well Arikos tries to help her but she is like "Nope I don't know you.", but he ends up getting to help anyway. He gets help from Solin a demigod to help get permits so they can excavate the wall they found. Well guess who else is there "Katra", she is there to watch over Geary and make sure she doesn't unless the Destroyer.
Yes I did like this book, yes it is something I could look back into later, but it isn't my favorite book out of all that I have read.
I really like that fact that this one was about Atlantis and you got to learn more about the Destroyer. The setting was also in Greece which was another amazing thing about the book. It was a mix between Greek and Atlantis mythology, which is great!
Since this book was about the Dream-Hunters, in this book my favorite character had to be Tory, even though she wasn't really a main character. She was funny, witty, and smart. But if you wanna know which main character was my favorite it would have to be Geary. She made a promise to her father and she stood by it for so many years. She is sweet, and doesn't take crap from noone.
My favorite part in the book was when Geary went with Katra to go get Arikos from the Underworld. She had to do the test that so many people have failed to do. It was intense and had me at the edge of my bed. I was so nervous I thought she might fail. The least favorite thing that I think happen in this book was the fact that Geary didn't let Arikos explain himself when M'Adoc came to come get him, she just tossed him aside and I was really upset about that.
